How Distance Drives Divorce in the Military

Sadly, a significant number of military couples and families will need to go through the battle that is divorce. Marriages collapse for any number of reasons, but when it comes to military divorce, there are some more common causes and reasons that Colorado Springs family law attorneys see when negotiating between parties.
At the heart of it, distance drives the divorce rates for military families. It all begins when a military serviceman, or servicewoman, moves around from base to base. For some spouses, packing up life and leaving the comfort of a familiar town/city, especially their hometown where their parents are, can take a great emotional toll. Not only that, the family may need to move multiple times in short spans, either never really setting roots, or having what fresh roots have begun to take hold ripped away.
Deployments are the next piece of the distance puzzle as the serviceman, or servicewoman, ship out far away for months at a time. Distance may make the heart grow fonder, but for such long periods of time, maintaining a relationship may become more of a burden than either spouse thought it would, which leads to the next point.
Infidelity, otherwise known as being unfaithful, or cheating. With a spouse gone for so long, so far away, some may find comfort in the arms of another since the one they love can’t be there. Some military personnel may not find out until months or years after they return from deployment that their spouse was unfaithful. Regardless of when they find out, the news will break the person – and the marriage.
